The April rainfall forecast for Africa is highlighted by drier than normal conditions in southern Ethiopia, Kenya, the southern half of Somalia, the norther two thirds of Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda. Drier than normal conditions could also prevail in the coastal and western sections of Gabon, Republic of the Congo and Angola (Cabinda) as well as southeast Botswana and eastern South Africa and Lesotho and Swaziland and southern Mozambique plus northern Morocco. Wetter than normal areas include Much of the area south of the Sahel from Guinea to northwest Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and most of Angola and the northern half of Zambia across to southern Tanzania, Malawi and northern Mozambique and Madagascar. The rest of the continent should be near normal.

Temperature

March

Temperatures are forecast to be above normal from the Sahel north and also in a band from Gabon east to Kenya and south to northern Zambia across to Madagascar and also along the western part of Namibia and southwestern South Africa. Much of West African south of the Sahel should be near normal along with the area south of the Congo basin except for northwest Namibia, Northern Botswana and Zimbabwe that could all be slightly below normal for temperatures in April.
