The climate of the Northwest Territories' is relatively cold and dry. The region experiences temperate but often sunny summers, when temperatures rarely exceed 25°C. The winters can be bitterly cold with temperatures dropping to -40°C, especially in the sub-region north of the Arctic Circle. Variability is considerable and with climate change becoming more so with greater extremes of hot and cold and wet and dry.
